4 Historic occurrence. 5 Ptychobranchus greenii was listed as endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act in 1993. Williams et al. (2008) restricted its distribution to the Black Warrior and Tombigbee River systems, with the form in the remainder of the Mobile Basin recognized as Ptychobranchus foremanianus.
