Information Requests

The Alabama Natural Heritage Program (ALNHP) maintains a comprehensive database of the rare plant and animal species and selected natural communities in Alabama. It is the only comprehensive and centralized database of its kind in Alabama. The BCD has been built using data collected by Heritage scientists and from available information from museums, herbaria, results from independent, federal and state research projects, and cooperative efforts with industry. As new information is obtained, the database is continuously updated and improved. Data is available to interested parties to assist with the preservation of habitat for rare communities, plants and animals.

Types of Data Available

Standard Data Report
A site specific report listing species scientific name, common name, Heritage rank, federal status, state status, last observed date, county, quadrangle, generalized location, and comments about the occurrence for all occurrences in the area searched. Because of species sensitivity and private property issues, some occurrences may have selected data omitted from the report. The report can be provided as an electronic (PDF) or hard copy report. An 8.5" x 11" color map and/or GIS data (generalized polygons, not precise locations) can also be provided with the report.
Larger format and custom maps can be provided upon request for an additional fee.

County List
This list provides a general overview of rare species located within a county and includes species name, global and state ranks, and federal and state statuses.

Species Specific
Species specific requests are handled on a case-by-case basis. Responses are designed to fit the needs of the researcher.
